The seventh African Population Conference was jointly hosted by the Government of South Africa and the Union for African Population Studies (UAPS) between November 30 and 4 December 2015 on the theme below.

Registration and Accreditation: Foyer of the Saint George Hotel and Conference Centre, Pretoria

Sunday 29 November 9:00 - 17:00 
Monday 30 November 7:00 - 9:00 and after the Opening Ceremony

Conference registration starts at 9:00 am on Sunday, 29th of November 2015. Participants should come with their passports or IDs for accreditation, registration and collection of conference pack. Participants who do not register on Sunday would be able to do so on Monday afternoon after the Opening Ceremony. For security reasons, only participants who are registered and accredited will be granted access to the Opening Ceremony on Monday morning. 

Transport from OR Tambo Airport to Hotels in Pretoria

All participants not funded by UAPS or other sponsors are responsible for their transport from the OR Tambo Airport Johannesburg to their respective hotels. Hotels provide shuttle services from the airport to their hotels. Participants should contact their hotels for the airport shuttle service.

The Conference organizers will provide shuttle services from the various Hotels to the Saint George Conference facility.

Shuttle Service to Conference Venue

A shuttle service will be provided from the following hotels in Pretoria to the St George Conference Facility. Time of departure: 7:00 – 7:30am.

NEWS - Change of Conference Venue

Due to the recent student disturbances at South African Universities examinations were postponed and now coincide with the dates of the conference at the University of Witswaterand. Consequently the venue has been changed from University of Witwatersrand to the Saint George Hotel and Conference Centre, Pretoria. We apologise for inconveniences caused by this change of venue.

At Protea Hotel, room rates differ each day so participants are advised to contact the hotel to check the room rates for the day. Participants can also negotiate discount if they book in groups. Registration for 7th African Population Conference

The extended deadline for registration is Friday 20 November, 2015.

To register, complete the registration form and submit to the conference coordinator at uaps@uaps-uepa.org. Registration form should be completed by everyone that will attend the conference. All participants are requested to provide all information requested on registration form in order to facilitate accreditation and security arrangements. 

Registration Fees:
Registration fees include venue fees, conference materials and attendance at sessions and side events. Conference organizers will provide lunch for all participants. 

Payment Categories:
Students: US$100.00
UAPS members:  US$300.00 (Proof of payment of UAPS annual membership fees for 2015 will be required for the reduced registration fee to be accepted);
Non-members: US$400.00

Scholarships for Early Career Scholars

Partial to full scholarships are available for early career scholars whose papers were accepted for oral presentation at the conference. The extended deadline for applications is Tuesday 3 November, 2015. Scholarships do not include conference registration fees; hence all scholarship recipients will be required to pay their registration fees.  Due to the large number of applications received, only those selected will be contacted by email. Selected candidates will be advised by email no later than Friday 6th November 2015.

Sources of funding

We encourage participants to apply for funding from other sources. Organizations and institutions that have provided sponsorship to UAPS’s conference delegates in the past include UNFPA, WHO, UNICEF, World Bank, ADB, etc. Participants who require letters to support their application should contact the UAPS secretariat at uaps@uaps-uepa.org.

Letter of Invitation

If you need a formal invitation to the 7th African Population Conference as part of the visa process, please submit a request via email to uaps@uaps-uepa.org with the subject: LETTER OF INVITATION. Please indicate in your request, your role at the conference. If you are presenting a paper, include the title and session in which the paper will be presented, or if you are exhibiting, please indicate so in your request. Your name must be listed exactly as it appears on your passport. For further questions please contact: uaps@uaps-uepa.org
